Three ways to work with Folioheir

A single workshop, a structured documentation block, or a long-term membership — each designed for a different stage of personal and family record-keeping.

How We Work

The Folioheir facilitation approach

Conversation first

Every session begins with an open conversation about what the participant wants to document and why. The structure follows from that conversation, not the other way around.

Writing in the session

Participants write during the session, not at home afterwards. The facilitator is present while the work is being done, which produces better results than homework-based models.

Physical output always

Every session ends with a printed, physical document. This is a deliberate choice — physical documents are accessible, durable, and do not require any technical infrastructure to use.

Personal Folio Workshop session — participant writing in a folio with facilitator nearby

Workshop 01

Personal Folio Workshop

A three-hour facilitated session in which you build a personal folio — a single bound document holding a one-page self-summary, a list of the records you maintain, and a short personal note written in your own words. The folio is yours and leaves with you at the end of the session.

The workshop is led by a senior facilitator and uses publicly available templates as a starting point. No legal or financial advice is provided. The focus is on clarity, structure, and producing something you can actually use.

Printed template and starter folio cover included in the fee

Senior facilitator present throughout the full three hours

Folio belongs to and leaves with the participant — no copies held

Maximum eight participants per cohort for attentive facilitation

Session Process

  1. 1

Opening conversation: what do you want your folio to hold, and who is it for?

  2. 2

Guided writing of your one-page self-summary using the workshop template

  3. 3

Building your records list — what you hold, where it is kept, what it covers

  4. 4

Writing your personal note, binding the folio, and reviewing with the facilitator

Heritage Documentation Block session — a written booklet with family records open on a desk

Workshop 02

Heritage Documentation Block

A three-session block in which you are supported through documenting a piece of family heritage — a household trade or skill, a relative's working life, or the history of a household object. The work combines reading, guided conversation, and writing across three sessions with a consistent facilitator.

The facilitator provides prompts and structure; you do the documenting. The block is reflective and archival; it does not involve personal counselling or professional advice of any kind. At the end of the block you receive a printed booklet of your completed document and a follow-up note one month after the final session.

Scope agreed with the facilitator at the start of the block

Printed booklet of the completed document delivered at the final session

Follow-up note from the facilitator one month after completion

One-on-one structure — no group cohort

Block Structure

  1. 1

Session one: conversation to define scope, select the heritage subject, and agree on the document format

  2. 2

Session two: structured reading and conversation to surface the material; guided note-taking and first draft writing

  3. 3

Session three: completing the document, reviewing with the facilitator, receiving the printed booklet

Annual Folio Membership materials — a folio with tabs showing updates added over successive years

Membership 03

Annual Folio Membership

A twelve-month membership for participants who have built a personal folio and want sustained support keeping it current. A folio that is not updated becomes outdated — the membership provides the structure and prompts to prevent that.

The membership includes a quarterly thirty-minute call with a facilitator, quarterly writing prompts delivered ahead of each call, and an annual printed addition to the folio at the year's end. It is reflective and educational; no legal or financial advice is provided. The membership is for one participant — it cannot be shared.

Four quarterly thirty-minute calls with the same facilitator each year

Quarterly writing prompts prepared specifically around your folio

Annual printed addition to your folio — a new section documenting the year

Requires prior completion of the Personal Folio Workshop

Annual Rhythm

  1. Q1

Quarterly call + writing prompts: what has changed in the past three months that belongs in the folio?

  2. Q2

Mid-year call + prompts: reviewing the records list and identifying any gaps that have appeared

  3. Q3

Third-quarter call + prompts: preparing the material for the annual addition

  4. Q4

Year-end call + delivery of the annual printed addition to the folio

Annual Fee

RM 2,580

per participant · twelve months
